In August of 2015, Darice served as Faculty to the National Juvenile Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges at its Multi-Disciplinary Child Abuse and Neglect Institute in Springfield, Illinois. Darice was the only parent attorney in the country to receive this honor. The institute brought together judges, child attorneys, DFCS, DFCS attorneys, and parent attorneys, to work together on improve representation and outcomes for families in child abuse and neglect cases.

Six Degrees of Medical Child Abuse Presentation focuses on helping attorneys in cases involving allegations that a parent subjected their child to unnecessary, harmful and invasive medical interventions.

After years of representing parents in medical child abuse, we identified six areas that trigger child protective series interventions in these cases. We discuss each area and how to determine whether medical child abuse has occurred, and if it has how to work with the family to prevent further incidences. We also teach the Six Degrees of Medical Child Abuse to parents of medically fragile children to help parents manage their child’s and their families’ care to avoid unintentionally subjecting their child to medical abuse.
